  • PINEWOOD DERBY PROJECT

Our school district has decided to go into the car manufacturing business. Each grade level will have a specific role to carry out to make sure the business is successful. As 6th grade students your role is to design the overall shape of the vehicle. You will eventually fabricate prototypes of the vehicle design you have personally selected out of a block of wood using hand tools. Once completed, we will race these vehicles to test for aerodynamics and speed. As you know not all cars are built for speed. Some vehicles are built to transport supplies or people, while others, well, just look cool. With that in mind, do not be afraid to experiment with nontraditional design ideas as well. Car manufactures are constantly updating the designs and appearance of their vehicles. You too will be redesigning the shape of your car, using the engineering design process, until you narrow your ideas down to your favorite one. What are you waiting for? Put the pedal to the metal and let's start designing!
