    Greetings and welcome!Notes in the Air

    smile I have been instructing Vocal Music at the elementary, intermediate, secondary and collegiate levels of education since 1983 and performing as a freelance professional singer and violinist.

    At ESASD, our Music Curriculum highlights the teaching of melody, harmony, theory, history, performance and music appreciation incorporating the aural, visual and kinesthetic approaches.

    Performance opportunities exist for 4th and 5th grade students in Chorus, African Drumming, Recorder Club and Elementary Songfest.

    CHORUS cool Clefs

    • While learning to sing in two and three part harmony, students prepare for their winter and spring concerts. At rehearsals, students vocalize, learn new musical concepts and ideas, sing together in a group setting, have ample opportunities for solo and ensemble singing and some receive extra challenging jobs such as instrumental accompanists on percussion instruments and narrator parts. Sometimes chorus members dance or perform motions to their repertoire. Those students who have 0-1 absences from Chorus along with an "A" classroom music grade may be selected by Dr. Worobij to participate in the Elementary Song Fest and work with a guest conductor in the spring semester.

      Spring Concert Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.; assembly at 1:45 p.m.

    RECORDER CLUB
    Eighth notes

    • This extracurricular course is designed to encourage students to play their recorders and to learn new songs in addition to what they have completed in their grade 3 recorder training as a requirement of the music curriculum. Recorder Club is held on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:20 p.m. from January through May.

    AFRICAN DRUMMING

    • Taught as an extracurricular class, African Drumming is a four month intramural on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:20 p.m. during the months of September through December in which students learn about the tribal music of Africa and learn the play the various sized drums from Africa, such as congos, bongos, djembes, etc. Polyrhythms will be studied and mastered while students work in groups on a team.

    ELEMENTARY SONGFEST

    • Students who excel in Chorus have an opportunity to be selected to participate in Elementary Song Fest with a guest conductor. Requirements are an "A" grade and 0-1 absences from Chorus, as well as, an outstanding attitude and unsurpassed classroom behavior.

    3RD GRADE CURRICULUM CLASSROOM RECORDERS

    • Students learn basic music theory, as well as, to read music and play the following notes on the recorder: G, A, B, C, D. Periodic playing tests evaluate the musical progress of each student. Students receive one recorder from their music teacher to use in the classroom only. Additional recorders to take home to practice are available at a cost of $3.50 per recorder.

    CLASSROOM RULES

    • 1. 100% participation is expected from all students.
      2. Respect the teacher and others.
      3. No talking when class begins.
      4. No food, candy, gum or beverages are allowed in Music.
      5. A good attitude is expected.
      6. Flipping of pages is unacceptable.
      7. Keep the area around your desk clean.
      8. Bullying will not be tolerated.
      9. Students will be prompt for class.
      10. All missed work due to absence must be completed.
      11.  Cell phones and iPhones are not permitted in music class.

    THE FINE ARTS AT BUSHKILL newsletter is a wealth of information about what is happening in the art and music classrooms at Bushkill Elementary School. The news letter is authored and compiled by Dr. Nadia Worobij and article contributors are:  Mr. Jim Krumanocker (art teacher),  and Mrs. Rose Perkins (instrumental music & band teacher).

    *The newsletter is distributed to Bushkill Elementary School students several times per year during the 2017-2018 school year. Please read it to keep abreast of all music and art happenings at our school and concert information.
